You can suggest a topic for NICE to develop guidance on by:

We receive a high volume of topic suggestions and we are unable to provide individual responses on the outcomes of topic suggestions we receive. We will however, notify you if your topic suggestion is already covered on the NICE work programme or is not within the remit of NICE.

Manufacturers

Suggesting new pharmaceutical products

If you want to suggest that NICE develops guidance on a new pharmaceutical product (one that is not yet licensed or used within the NHS), you should notify UK PharmaScan. More information can be obtained from reading the following document UK PharmaScan or from accessing the website. Alternatively, please contact the National Horizon Scanning Centre. They are responsible for letting the Department of Health know of key new and emerging healthcare technologies that might need to be referred to NICE.

Suggesting innovative medical technologies

If you want to suggest that NICE develops guidance on an innovative medical technology (including devices and diagnostics), you should notify the NICE Evaluation Pathway Programme.

Clinicians

Clinicians wishing to notify NICE about a topic for the interventional procedures program should read this information.

Before you suggest a topic

There are a number of sources available to find out which topics are being progressed in the topics selection process:

  • NICE guidance that has recently been referred by the Department of Health and guidance that is currently in progress
  • topics that have been considered at a topic selection consideration panel by looking at the consideration panel minutes
  • proposed technology appraisals which have been recommended by consideration panels and will proceed to consultation on scoping before a final decision is made on whether the topic will be referred to the Institute
  • technology appraisal topics which are not being progressed (note there is not an alternative source for clinical guideline or public health topics)

We recommend that you check whether we are already working on your suggestion by searching NICE guidance. You may also want to learn more about how NICE guidance topics are chosen.

When completing the form, please keep your answers concise.
