The UK is just weeks away from a General Election which could see one of the biggest shake-ups of Parliament for a generation. Nearly 20 per cent of existing Members of Parliament (MPs) are stepping down and with over 1,600 parliamentary candidates standing for just 650 parliamentary seats, competition will be fierce.
In the run-up to the General Election candidates will be trying to secure your vote by showing that they can represent your views and interests. This provides you with a crucial opportunity to ensure that your future MP works to put it right for children.
UNICEF UK has created three pledges that candidates can sign. These simple pledges will help commit your future MP to taking action to protect and promote the rights of children both here in the UK and abroad.
UNICEF UK’s Election Pledges
- Take urgent action to address the high rates of UK child poverty
- Champion the Millennium Development Goals
- Listen to young people in their constituency

Take action: Already, some candidates have signed the pledges but as a constituent we need your help to make sure more do the same. Find out if your local candidates have signed our pledges.
Take action by emailing candidates in your constituency.
You can also get involved by campaigning locally. We have created a General Election campaign pack which you can download.
