New disability policy web pages
We have published a new area on the DWP website that provides in one place a summary of policies that affect disabled people.
The new area includes latest news and information about:

- changes contained in the Welfare Reform Bill 2011
- other policies affecting disabled people from across government.
We will update this new area as further policy decisions are made and continue to highlight significant developments here in the advisers and intermediaries area of the website.
You can find the new disability area in the policy section of the DWP website.
Disability
The Government is committed to providing opportunity, choice and independence to enable disabled people to take an equal role in society.
We will improve equality by:
- promoting work for disabled people, developing new ways to deliver Access to Work and introducing Work Choice to provide employment support for disabled people facing the greatest barriers.
- supporting more independent living for those who face the greatest barriers.
In the Welfare Reform Bill currently before Parliament, the Government is seeking to replace Disability Living Allowance with a new benefit for working age people aged 16 to 64 who are eligible: Personal Independence Payment. This, alongside a number of other reforms, will provide clear and fair support to those disabled people who need it most.
In this area of the website, you will find information about:
- Personal Independence Payment
- The Welfare Reform Bill 2011 and disabled people
- Employment programmes for disabled people
- Specialist disability employment support – Sayce review and consultation
- Housing
- Carers and social care
- Psychological talking therapies
- Transport
- Education
You will find more information about the Government’s plans to get Britain working and to reform the benefit system, including Universal Credit, in the welfare reform area of the website:
