INTRODUCTION
1      This memo gives guidance on the changes introduced by The Jobseeker’s Allowance
(Mandatory Work Activity Scheme) Regulations 2011 (JSA (MWA) Regs 2011) (SI
2011/688) which come into effect on 25.4.11¹.

2      The regulations make provision for participation in the Mandatory Work Activity
Scheme (MWA scheme) into existing legislation¹. The scheme is designed to provide
work or work-related activity for up to 30 hours a week over a period of four
consecutive weeks to improve a claimant’s prospects of employment².
