Tcell.org.uk is a wholly independent entity from any charity, company or trust that we may advertise a job role for. We receive no funds for highlighting an employment oppourtunity, in fact our constitution doesn't allow us as it may compromise the independence we value so highly.

We would encourage you to place advertisements for local HIV sector jobs as part of our mission to share experience and information.

Fundraising Manager (Trust, Lottery and Statutory) - GMFA

Accountable to: Chief Executive
Starting salary: £28,000 to £30,000
Pension: 5% paid by employer
Holidays: 25 days + public, rising to 30 with service
Hours: 36/week, flexitime
Base: Angel / Old Street. Some home-based working is acceptable.

Background information

An exciting opportunity to build up a fundraising programme and be at the heart of a drive to involve fundraising in all activities of the organisation.

Primarily responsible for reaching financial targets through trust, lottery and statutory applications, the successful candidate will also advise other project managers on developing individual donor and events-based fundraising. Success may lead to growth of the fundraising team and wider responsibilities for this post.

GMFA currently relies on PCT funding to deliver the majority of its health promotion and campaigning work. An expansion of our remit (from HIV to wider health and social issues), an expansion of our target audience to cover interventions for lesbians, bisexuals and the transgender communities and a strategic shift in the direction requested by the trustees means that we are seeking to widen our funding base.

Projects prioritised for fundraising in 2012-2014 include:

  • Improving the health of men with HIV.
  • Expanding GMFA’s HIV prevention initiatives particularly around media and groupwork
  • Smoking cessation campaigns and courses.
  • Programme of groupwork for LGB & T people
  • Community development
  • Mental health
  • Older LGB & T people
  • Working with LGB & T ethnic minorities.

The fact that trusts and non-HIV statutory funding streams are largely new territory for GMFA means that there is a great deal of relationship building to be done by the Fundraising Manager, and a large potential for success from untapped sources.

The staff team is currently under-represented by lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities as we have recently broadened our charitable objectives to include these communities. We would therefore particularly welcome applications from people who are from those constituencies. However, selection will be on merit without reference to sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Our current turnover is around £600,000, We employ 7 staff and have over 150 active volunteers.

The application process:

Download:

Once complete, please email this application form to jobs@gmfa.org.uk or post it to Recruitment Team, GMFA, Unit 11 Angel Wharf, Eagle Wharf Road, London N1 7ER.

Closing date for applications: 9am 05/12/2011

Interviews: will be held on 12/12/2011 and will include a presentation

GMFA’s vision and mission statement:

Vision – GMFA wants an LGB & T community where individuals are able to make informed choices about their health, and a society that embraces equality and respects the right of people to make informed choices.

Mission – Improving lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people’s health by increasing the control they have over their own lives.

THT launches Back to Work scheme deadline 30th April 2012

Terrence Higgins Trust launches Back to Work scheme for people with HIV in long-term unemployment

I asked THT about the funding for this programme here is the response

"We have designed our own work experience and personal development programme completely independently so I can clarify that this is NOT part of the Government's "Work Programme" in any way. THT have the view that one of the best ways to support people living with HIV into employment is to host work experience placements in-house in a safe, supportive and understanding environment.

THT is funding the project itself, currently through the HR and Learning and Development budget, and we are looking for external funding to fully meet the costs of the programme through major grants, trusts and foundations."

Back to Work Scheme - Volunteer Placements

THT Back to Work scheme - reminder

If you need to go back to work as a result of changes to your benefits, you might find the scheme THT is running in the comment above useful, by way of gaining some experience.

THT tell me they are still accepting applications up to the deadline of 30th April 2012.

I accept there is much debate over such schemes and THT confirmed this wasn't related to the DWP Work Programme. However I also accept that where someone has been placed in the Work Related Activity Group of ESA or onto Jobseekers Allowance and is pressed to re-enter the workplace and demonstrate activity to getting a job.  When you have been out of the workplace for sometime knowing where you can get some experience, as a start, can be stressful. This may facilitate a "first step" along that path. Everyone will have to consider there own circumstances, needs and the current realitites we have to live with today.
