Date of decision:
1 March 2010
Statement of information:
HIV is an infection associated with serious morbidity, high costs of treatment and care, significant mortality and high number of potential years of life lost. Prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Wales continues to increase. It is estimated that one third of those living in the UK with HIV do not know their status. Continued efforts must be made to raise awareness of HIV and its prevention, particularly amongst the groups most affected.
The Minister for Health and Social Services is being asked to consider funding of a national HIV Prevention Programme for 2010-2013 following a review of HIV in Wales and to agree interim funding for HIV prevention work between January – March 2010.
