Changes to the social fund cold weather payments scheme<

New statutory instrument

New regulations have been issued in relation to the social fund cold weather payments scheme.

In force from 1 November 2010, the Social Fund Cold Weather Payments (General) Amendment Regulations 2010 (SI.No.2422/2010) -

  • provide that a payment may not be made more than 26 weeks from and including the last day of the winter period in which the relevant period of cold weather falls;
  • update some definitions and provides more clarity on the qualifying conditions, particularly surrounding state pension credit and in respect of child tax credit; and
  • make minor technical changes to the scheme, following advice from the Meteorological Office, to ensure that postcodes are linked to the most appropriate weather stations.
