The All Party Parliamentary Group on Carers is an officially registered all party group in Parliament. Following high profile work throughout the last Parliament it was reconstituted in June 2010.

Terms of Reference
To ensure the equality of opportunity for carers in the UK by liaising with carers organisations, lobbying Government and promoting legislation on their behalf; to promote awareness amongst members of both Houses of the needs of carers and former carers; to liaise with members of the devolved administrations within the UK in order to share best practice; and to link with appropriate bodies, including carers organisations, on an international basis.
Meetings of the Group are held on a quarterly basis. Individuals and representatives from external organisations are welcome to attend as observers. Previous meetings have focused on issues such as lifelong learning, carers’ health, pensions and how to support carers to combine work and care.

Minutes of meeting on 6th January 2010
The first of two APPG meetings in the lead up to the general election. The meeting focussed on education, work and benefits, and the Group heard evidence from speakers about the progress that was made for carers in the 2005-2010 parliament and what they believe the priorities should be for the future.

Statement of support for the Equality Bill
At its meeting on 20th May 2009, members of the APPG agreed to issue a statement of support for the Equality Bill, which is currently passing through Parliament.

Items discussed included carers and welfare reform, Primary Care Trust funding for breaks, and the Saving Gateway Accounts Bill.
